Description

When I first started this picture all that inspired me was what kind of earrings this person could wear. Even to this hour, the ear still looks crooked, but never mind that now. I was doing my last-minute rushed biology homework while some criminal drama was flashing on the tv screen, I glanced up and behold, there was a lawyer with about six piercings on her ear yakking not-so-dubiously to the judge and jury about who knows what; I wasn't paying attention to the case, my sights were set on her earring arrangement. And do you know what happened next? Pencil + paper + wayward imagination= picture
Ah, but initial plans may go astray. Tsk tsk, indeed they did! The drawing started to look like a unicorn, then some sort of hybrid cross between the Addams family reunion and an unfortunated Barbie doll whose hair had been brutally plucked half off by a bratty infant. I thought of cancelling this picture process, but typically destested the thought of wasting paper and lead. So persevered and achieved something I could learn to live with (figure of speech).
As I was saying about the 'gone astray' bit ... The concept of the drawing changed so many times. I slowly ignored the focus of the earrings (which you might have figured looks nothing like the lawyer's because the lawyer was wearing a bunch of sleepers), abandoned the plain-beautiful face and settled for an elaborately framed face, hair tendrils, headgear and all! The knuckle accessory or weapon was originally intended to be a few rings, but a knuckle thing (does anyone know what it's called? killer-knuckle-slicer? iron-ripper? bark clawer? cheese grader?) seemed more appealing. I guess maybe it's because she doesn't look the agressive type so it was an intriging contrast.
A few more things. The hand is wonky, but it's part of practice, so I'm not much affronted. And the sharp things up there aren't horns. No children, she ain't no unicorn girl or warped antelope, that's just a headgear for fashion purposes or culture or a ornamental symbol of stature (such as a crown) or just no reason at all. The headgear consists of a frame that rests on her lower neck or above her shoulder. If only I drew the shoulders.
The title 'Hide Me' I thought might complement the narration of the picture, since I like pictures that look as if they would have a story to them, which a semblance of this does.

Inhale .... Exhale
